What’s going on? Michigan hires former Florida head coach Jim McElwain to its coaching staff.
Michigan Hires Jim McElwain
Because it all worked out so well at Florida …
Florida finished 112th in the nation in passing efficiency, and averaged 179.5 passing yards per game. That was enough to get former Gator head coach Jim MeElwain hired as the Michigan wide receivers coach.
“I am excited to work with this offensive staff and Coach Harbaugh,” said McElwain. “There are a lot of great offensive minds in that coaching room and I look forward to learning from them.”
Okay, okay, so Florida was missing a few of the key parts to the receiving corps, and he really is a top offensive mind – Florida era aside – doing big things as the offensive coordinator at Fresno State and Alabama before taking over the Colorado State head coaching job.
And now, he’s joining the staff of the team that rolled through his Gators to begin last year.
He’s got a great group of young receivers to work with, with Donovan Peoples-Jones, Grant Perry, Tarik Black and Eddie McDoom heading a deep group of targets to help – potentially – make former Ole Miss QB Shea Patterson, or Brandon Peters, crank up a passing attack that struggled last year.
