5. CB Jaire Alexander, Louisville
Fantastic in 2016, he was one of college football’s most dangerous playmakers with five picks to go along with his success as a punt returner. Very quick, very good in the open field both as a hitter and a ball-hawker, the 5-11, 192-pounder isn’t built for it, but he can hit.
The problem? His stock dropped a bit after missing time last year with a knee injury. He’s fine, and he came back to finish out the season, but there’s still going to be a concern about exactly what he can do and where – he’s not a safety and he’s not going to do too much at the next level in against the run.
Even so, a good effort at the Combine puts him in the top 50. There’s enough talent, quickness and playmaking ability when the ball is in the air to think he can be a difference-maker at corner on either side.
Live through the occasional gamble-gone-wrong. He’ll make the big plays needed.
