And now America has come around.

Wisconsin was always going to be a lock for the College Football Playoff by gong 13-0 with a Big Ten championship, but the dominant win over Iowa – along with the other big blowouts up top in the rankings – was the moment when everything turned.

Great, Bucky. Now do it again.

Michigan, meanwhile, has very, very quietly rebounded from the spanking at Penn State to rolled through Rutgers, Minnesota and Maryland with brutally efficient easy.

Run the ball, don’t screw up, rely on the defense, move on.

However, for all of the good things the Wolverines have done, they has yet to beat a team that’s likely to go bowling. That doesn’t matter now. Beat Wisconsin, beat Ohio State, play spoiler for the Big Ten College Football Playoff hopes, and the program will suddenly be red hot going into the offseason.

But here’s the crazy part for Wisconsin. Win, and the Minnesota game next week might not matter. It can probably get in at 12-1 as the Big Ten champ – but again, 13-0 cements it.

One Reason Why Michigan Will Win

Yeah, Wisconsin. That whole running the ball thing – it’s not happening.

Maryland had a wee bit of success on the ground with three big gashes, but the steady production wasn’t there, and it’s not going to be for a Badger ground game that will need to pound away early.

It’ll be an easy formula for the Wolverines: run, control the clock, and stop Wisconsin on third downs.

The defense is No. 1 in the nation in stopping third downs, the secondary has been fantastic at coming up with plays to get off the field, and the team owns the time of possession battle.

Yes, it’s possible Michigan could out-Wisconsin, Wisconsin. However …

One Reason Why Wisconsin Will Win

Again, Michigan’s defense has been amazing … against a whole bunch of bad teams.

The Wolverines have been bum-slaying, getting run over by Penn State for 224 yards and Michigan State for 158 yards – the two losses.

But it’s the other side of the ball that’s the huge problem for Michigan. The Iowa offense that ripped up Ohio State to shreds the week before was held to 25 rushing yards and 41 through the air against a Badger defense that had things in cruise control for nine weeks, and now appears to have turned it on.

The Wolverines need Brandon Peters to suddenly have a little Tom Brady in him. No, Chris Evans, Karan Higdon and the running game aren’t going to find a groove, and Peters is going to be under pressure all game long.

As long as Alex Hornibrook isn’t throwing picks and Jonathan Taylor isn’t fumbling the ball in the red zone – neither one is a given – the Badger D should take care of the rest.

What’s Going To Happen

Iowa was the more dangerous matchup for the Badgers. Michigan’s offense isn’t going to get moving well enough, the charged up Camp Randall and early start will get the Wisconsin offense rolling for a few early drives, and this will be the defining moment that makes it look like this really could be a true national championship contender.

And then Wisconsin will stall.

Michigan will do what Iowa inexplicably didn’t and test the Badger corners deep to get back in the game and make it scary. And then, when it absolutely has to, the Wisconsin O line will kick it into gear for one, long touchdown drive, and the D line will take care of the rest with game-sealing sacks.
