What’s Going To Happen
It’s this simple. If Toledo wins, it’s off to the MAC Championship game to face Akron for a shot at keeping a 12-win season alive. Lose, and it’s still in if Central Michigan beats Northern Illinois, and out if NIU wins.
Western Michigan needs a win to be assured of a bowl game. It’ll still likely find a home somewhere, but there will be too many eligible MAC teams, and it’s possible to be left out at 6-6. Win, and the Broncos will get a 13th game.
The Broncos have been on a win-loss pattern for the last six weeks, and now, after losing to Northern Illinois, it’s due to come up with a win again. However, that means the offense has to find a passing attack to keep up the pace.
The program that was so great at wining the ball around last year is miserable at finding anything that works offensively other than pounding away on the ground.
WMU is No. 1 in the MAC in turnover margin, but Toledo is No. 2. The Rockets won’t make the big mistakes WMU needs, and the run defense will be good enough to force WMU to throw. Reece Goddard threw for 211 yards and two touchdowns last week, but he won’t do that twice in a row.
The Toledo offense won’t blow up, but it’ll get up early and stay there.
