Game Time: 10:00 pm ET
Venue: Husky Stadium, Seattle, WA
Alright, Willie Taggart era. If you really want to get this thing going, this is the game to win to provide the spark for the next several years.
Washington is the better team. It had a bad performance against Arizona State when nothing went quite right, but that was it.
The Huskies have ripped through everyone else on a soft schedule, but that’s been the deal. They aren’t missing the 84 mile-per-hour fastball.
At this point, it’s just about winning out. Beat Oregon, win at Stanford, take down Utah and Washington State, and it’s off to the Pac-12 Championship with a likely shot at getting back to the College Football Playoff.
For Oregon, it’s about ruining that dream and becoming bowl eligible in the process.
After destroying Utah last week, the Ducks appear to be back on track – at least that’s the hope. With Arizona and Oregon State to close, they just need one more win to go bowling.
One Reason Why Washington Will Win
The run defense continues to be a killer, and since that’s all the Oregon offense can do right now, it might be ugly in a hurry.
The Huskies are second in the nation behind Alabama in both total defense and run defense, allowing just three scores on the ground and a mere 573 yards on the season.
Granted, Washington ain’t played a decent ground game yet, but it’s doing exactly what it’s supposed to do against bad competition.
And now the Dawgs get to tee off.
Oregon might have rolled by Utah with 347 rushing yards, but that’s not happening this week against this front seven. It won’t be able to win by cranking up 69 yards of passing offense.
One Reason Why Oregon Will Win
The Duck pass rush continues to be amazing.
The overall defense is still a little bit shaky, but there’s no problem when it comes to getting behind the line. Against the Utes, the Ducks came up with four sacks, ten tackles for loss, and stuffed drive after drive highlighted by three fourth down stops.
Washington might be doing just about everything right, but it’s about to deal with pressure it hasn’t faced yet. All of a sudden, Jake Browning and the backfield won’t be as comfortable.
What’s Going To Happen
Washington will get up for this.
It’s still Oregon, and it’s still the program the fan base and the school wants to destroy.
The Ducks aren’t going to be able to throw, the running game will be inconsistent, and the Huskies should be able to power their way to an efficient win.
