What’s Going To Happen
Will UNLV be able to close the deal?
The flakiest of the flaky, the Rebels were supposed to hammer a horrible BYU team in the final home game of the year, and couldn’t. Now they have to beat New Mexico and Nevada on the road to go bowling.
New Mexico’s season went bye-bye last week in a 55-14 loss to Texas A&M, but there’s still time to get something out of the year. It can ruin UNLV’s run, and it can screw up San Diego State if all the parts finally start to work.
The problem is the Lobo offense – there isn’t any.
There was a late rally against Colorado State in a 27-24 loss, but it’s scored more than 16 points twice in the last eight games.
The UNLV defense isn’t anything great, but it’s had a few moments against the pass, but it’s got big, big problems against the run. This is the game the Lobos have to go back to being the team that could crank out yards in chunks on the ground.
Both teams can run, but can New Mexico finally start to move the chains? It hasn’t been able to for most of the year, but at home against a mediocre Rebel defensive front, it’ll finally start to run like it’s supposed to.
Finally, the Lobos will control a game again – and score along the way.
