Game Time: 12:00 pm ET
Venue: FIU Stadium, Miami, FL
What’s Going To Happen
It’s not a bowl game, but there are worse places to finish out a college football season than Miami.
UMass has been a fighter all year long. It started out with a rough 0-6 start, but turned it around to win four of its last five games, including a solid 34-23 fight against Mississippi State.
There might have been some rough losses along the way, but the team showed off a good offense, and was plucky all through the campaign – it never quit.
And now, taking down a FIU team that is going bowling would be a sweet end to the rough right. Again, after starting 0-6, 5-7 would be terrific.
FIU got by WKU 41-17 for a seventh win to cement a bowl spot somewhere.
The Golden Panthers aren’t consistent in any way – the defense has melted down at some odd times, and was great in others – but the offense has perked up over the second half of the year.
The problem is a secondary that has the ability and potential to get hit hard by good passing games. UMass might be a bit rusty after several weeks off, but it has some of the better receivers the Golden Panthers have faced all year, and a passing game that averages close to 300 yards per game.
The Minutemen will be fired up to play this, FIU had its big games over the last few weeks, and it’ll be a good game with both sides bringing the effort.
But the UMass offense will be stronger and sharper.
