Oklahoma State is still alive.

Ranked 13th by the CFP might not be anything amazing, but if the Cowboys can beat Kansas State and hit the Kansas layup, it needs a TCU loss to either Texas Tech or Baylor to get into the Big 12 Championship. Beat Oklahoma, hope for a few meltdowns from the top 12-ranked teams, and …

At least the Cowboys are still in the hunt for the Big 12 title.

They bounced back from the epic shootout loss to Oklahoma with a nice road win over a nasty Iowa State squad, and now it’s time to take care of business at home over the last two weeks.

Kansas State needs a win this week or next week against Iowa State to become bowl eligible.

The Wildcats just can’t seem to get anything going, struggling too much defensively and not being able to take control of games with the offense.

They’ve been able to hang around with the Oklahomas and West Virginias of the world, but they can’t seem to generate wins over good teams. If they want to play more football this year, they need to do that at some point in the next two weeks.

One Reason Why Oklahoma State Will Win

The Kansas State secondary is awful, even by Big 12 standards.

It’s a problem when you give up 372 yards and four scores, and it’s a good day.

The Wildcats were crushed by Oklahoma, Kansas and Texas Tech for over 400 yards through the air in each game. The secondary was able to come up with a few picks – generating five in the last four games – but now it gets to deal with Mason Rudolph.

It might be all about Baker Mayfield in the Big 12, but Rudolph has been playing like the second-best quarterback in college football with 30 touchdown passes and just seven picks. When the team needed him to come through against Iowa State, he did, hitting 81% of his throws for 376 yards and three scores.

How did he do last year against Kansas State? 76% for 457 yards and five touchdowns with two picks in the 43-37 win.

One Reason Why Kansas State Will Win

The Cowboy secondary has had a wee bit of a problem, too.

Mostly, it’s because teams have to throw to keep up the pace, but the OSU pass defense is getting hit hard giving up nine touchdowns in the last three games. It’s making plays, though, with ten interceptions in the last five games, but teams are able to crank up big yards.

Kansas State might be a bit balanced, but the running game isn’t able to carry the program. The passing game is along for the ride, but when it hits, it’s able to come up with big plays. It’s a home run hitting O that needs to slow things down with the running game first.

If ever Kansas State was going to go back to being the team that could control the clock for well over 35 minutes, this would be the time. Do that, throw deep when the chances are there, hang around.

What’s Going To Happen

Rudolph is about to throw for a gajillion yards.

Kansas State will get the offense going by any means necessary, but it won’t be consistent enough to keep up with Rudolph’s huge performance.

Expect 400 yards from the Oklahoma State passing game as it stays in the Big 12 title hunt – and then the program starts praying for help.
