One team is 7-2 and life is over. One team is 7-2 and everything is there for the taking.
It’s the first game of the rest of Ohio State’s life following a brutally historic 55-24 thumping from Iowa to bow out of the College Football Playoff race. But beat Michigan State, Illinois and Michigan, and it’s on to the Big Ten Championship.
But is that enough? Can the team find the pride to care about the chase when there’s no national title to play for? If it doesn’t Michigan State will be more than happy to go to Indianapolis.
Michigan State continues to thrive in bad weather. It slugged through Michigan in the rain, and overcame a marathon rain delay to beat Penn State to shake up the East. Now the Big Ten title destiny is in its hands. Win out, go to a New Year’s Six game.
One Reason Why Ohio State Will Win
Let’s just say that Ohio State is going through a tough week of practice and should come back roaring.
The defensive front might be full of NFL talent, but it took a while to get it all rolling against Penn State, and last week it didn’t show up against a mediocre Iowa running game.
But Michigan State really, really, really can’t run.
The Spartans haven’t hit the 100-yard mark in the last three games and can’t generate any sort of a push. Oh sure, when it had to, it pounded away on Michigan in the slop to get by, but the O line couldn’t move anything against Indiana, and LJ Scott is having rough year.
Against a motivated and salty Buckeye defensive front, be shocked if the Spartans even sniff the 100-yard mark. However, the MSU offense has been saved by …
One Reason Why Michigan State Will Win
If Michigan State wins this game, there’s a great chance that he’s your First Team All-Big Ten quarterback.
On fire over the last two games, he hit Northwestern for 445 yards and four scores and nailed Penn State with 400 yards and two touchdowns. He’s been tough, accurate, and he hasn’t been afraid to take chances down the field.
Last week, Iowa’s Nate Stanley transformed into Tom Brady against the OSU secondary, throwing for 226 yards and five scores. Lewerke is better.
What’s Going To Happen
It’s Michigan State. It’s going to bog things down and control the tempo, and it’s going to do just about everything right to bring Ohio State down to its level of speed and pace.
But there will be scoring.
Lewerke will throw enough to open it up at times, too. However, the Ohio State defensive front is about to show up with an attitude, and J.T. Barrett will overcome the problems of last week to have a sharp effective game.
Two MSU fumbles will turn the tide as OSU gets by, but it won’t erase Iowa City.
