What’s Going To Happen
Northern Illinois will have one eye on the scoreboard as it tries to pull this off to keep hopes alive for a ten-win season – at least.
If Western Michigan beats Toledo, then Northern Illinois takes the MAC West with a win. If CMU wins, then Toledo is off to play Akron no matter what.
Central Michigan is on fire, winning its last four games wince losing to Toledo, and it’s won five of its last six games to lock up bowl eligibility. But Northern Illinois has won six of its last seven games, with the lone defeat coming at Toledo.
The Huskies are dominating defensively, led by nation-leading sacker Sutton Smith and a killer pass rush. The defense is the best in the MAC, the rushing offense solid, and the team owns third downs.
How is CMU doing it? It’s leading the nation in takeaways, its secondary has been terrific, and the D has been outstanding at times over the last month.
NIU has to keep the mistakes to a minimum – giveaways have been a major problem for the Huskies all season – and CMU has to capitalize on every opportunity.
At home, the Chippewa defense will be NIU’s equal, the offense will take advantage of the key mistakes, and being +2 in turnover margin will turn out to be a big deal.
