What’s Going To Happen
Fresno State might have won five of its last six, but the offense is limping along and as the UNLV loss showed, the defense can’t always carry the day.
The Bulldogs have the West division for the taking. All they have to do win two of their final three games – or get some help from a few San Diego State misfires – and they’re off to deal with, most likely, Boise State after the two meet in the regular season finale.
Hawaii is just trying to get close to bowl eligibility, and it’ll take winning out to do it.
This is the toughest step along the way. Going to Utah State is hard, but Fresno State is better, and hosting BYU shouldn’t be a problem. Beat the Bulldogs, and that 13th game is back on the table.
The Hawaii offense is moving the ball, but it likes to get things going with the ground game – that’s not going to work against Fresno.
The Bulldogs aren’t going to do anything flashy. They don’t turn the ball over, they own third downs, and they control the game in every phase, but it doesn’t run all that well and passing attack is functional, that’s it.
Hawaii’s offense simply doesn’t do enough against good defenses. San Diego State and Wyoming were able to hold the attack in check, and now Fresno State will do the same by owning the front line.
Don’t expect fireworks, but the Bulldogs will slug their way through to stay in the lead spot.
