What’s Going To Happen
Both teams are going bowling, and there’s an outside chance they could end up playing each other in the Armed Forces Bowl. They played twice last year in two entertaining games, and now both are even better.
North Texas is off to the Conference USA title game no matter what happens next week at Rice, and it’s got a shot at winning at least ten games – and even 11 – by winning out.
The offense has been impressive, the defense hasn’t been bad over the last few weeks, and on a run of six wins in the last seven games, it’s all working.
And it’s all really working for Army, too.
The Knights have won six straight with relatively dominant performances against Air Force and Duke. Already settled into a bowl game, it’s all fun and games now with Navy coming up in a few weeks, and then it’s off to the Armed Forces.
The formula continues to be dominant. Run the ball – only Navy is averaging more on the ground – dominant the time of possession, and step up the run defense. The Knights haven’t allowed 100 yards in either of their last two games, while the offense is taking advantage of every opportunity.
The UNT run D has been great, though, and it has passing game to push an Army secondary that hasn’t been pushed in weeks.
Army is finding a way, though, each and every week. It might have beaten a slew of awful teams, but the performance against Duke showed just how well things are working. The Knight style continues to get the job done, and the running game will control things again.
