MORGANTOWN, W.Va.- West Virginia University junior guard Tynice Martin was named to the Preseason All-Big 12 Team, as announced by the Big 12 Conference on Wednesday.

It marks the second consecutive season Martin has been honored by the Big 12. She previously was named Preseason All-Big 12 Honorable Mention in 2017.

The Atlanta native has earned mention on three preseason teams thus far. In addition to her Big 12 acknowledgment, Martin was named to Street & Smith’s Preseason All-America Second Team as well as the College Sports Madness Preseason All-America Fourth Team.

“It’s great to see Tynice recognized by the Big 12,” coach Mike Carey said. “She’s a leader on and off the court for us. We look forward to her return.”

Martin led the Mountaineers to the 2017 Big 12 Tournament Championship last season, earning Most Outstanding Player accolades for the tournament with 82 points and 12 rebounds in three games. She was named a 2017 Associated Press All-America Honorable Mention as well as a Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) All-America Honorable Mention. She was a unanimous All-Big 12 First Team selection and was selected to the WBCA All-Regional 3 Team and the Waco Tribune’s All-Big 12 First Team.

Baylor’s Kalani Brown was named the Big 12 Preseason Player of the Year, while Jatarie White of Texas is the Preseason Newcomer of the Year. Her Longhorn teammate Chasity Patterson was named the Preseason Freshman of the Year.

Brown, Kaylee Johnson (Oklahoma State), Ariel Atkins (Texas) and Brooke McCarty (Texas) joined Martin on the Preseason All-Big 12 Team. Lauren Cox (Baylor), Kristy Wallace (Baylor), Bridget Carleton (Iowa State), Maddie Manning (Oklahoma) and Vionise Pierre-Louis (Oklahoma) earned honorable mention.

West Virginia will host West Virginia Wesleyan in an exhibition game on Sunday, Oct. 29, for Haunted Hoops at 4 p.m. at the WVU Coliseum. The Mountaineers open the 2017 season on Friday, Nov. 10, when they host Central Connecticut State in Morgantow at 7 p.m.
