Who wants to be in the Pac-12 South race?

UCLA has had two weeks off to rest up and relax after a critical win over Colorado. With a banged up Oregon next up, there’s a chance to set up a showdown at Washington if Josh Rosen and company can cruise through the next two weeks.

Josh, meet Khalil.

Arizona found its star last week against Colorado with a huge rushing performance from its young quarterback.

Now, with Cal next week and Washington State at home to follow, it’s time for the Cats to make a move.

At the very least, the winner is on track to go bowling, while it’s hot seat time for the losing head coach.

One Reason Why UCLA Will Win

Arizona has been steadily mediocre against decent passing teams.

It hasn’t faced a Washington State or anyone close to as good as Josh Rosen, but the secondary is still giving up well over 200 yards per game and hasn’t been able to pick off a pass in Pac-12 play.

And now, Josh Rosen is rested.

UCLA doesn’t have much going on the ground, but Rosen might just be the best quarterback in college football this year. He’s hitting 65% of his throws averaging over 400 yards per game with 17 scores.

Last year against Arizona? 350 yards and there scores in a 45-24 win. As a freshman? 284 yards and two scores in a 56-30 win.

And no interceptions in either game.

One Reason Why Arizona Will Win

Oh yeah, Khalil Tate.

The sophomore hit 12-of-13 passes for 154 yards and a score last week against Colorado, and he’s still running wild with 327 yards and four touchdowns on 14 carries.

The Rich Rodriguez rushing offense is really, really working, hitting 200 yards or more in every game but the loss to Houston. Arizona is 3-0 when running for 300 yards or more, and UCLA’s run defense is spotty – to be nice.

What’s Going To Happen

The Arizona offense will keep on rolling.

The Wildcats will come up with just enough of a pass rush to bother Rosen, but it’ll be the running game and turnover margin that’ll be the big difference.

Arizona will be a +2 in turnovers, the ground game will hit 300 yards, and it’ll be a huge statement moment at home for Rodriguez and his Cats.
