What’s Going To Happen
This might be a preview of the American Athletic championship as long as the loser is perfect the rest of the way.
UCF has been nearly perfect so far, ripping through everything in its path with one of the nation’s must efficient and effective offenses. McKenzie Milton is cranking up big play after big play – he’s in Baker Mayfield territory when it comes to yards per attempt – and the offense is destroying teams before they can get started.
Yeah, East Carolina is awful – but that’s what you do if you’re UCF. You go up 42-14 at halftime and you end it.
Navy lost its first game of the season in a good fight with Memphis, losing 30-27 in a thriller that came down to a great finish. But the Midshipmen running game did its part, taking off for 314 yards and three scores. Zach Abey ran for 146 yards and three scores, but he completed just one of seven passes for 20 yards and two picks.
And that’s the problem.
The active UCF defensive front has been a killer against the run. No one has hit the 200-yard mark against the Knight D – ECU ran for a season-high 187 yards – and Navy doesn’t throw the ball outside of the occasional surprise.
The Midshipmen secondary hasn’t faced a passing game that does much of anything other than Riley Ferguson and Memphis, and it couldn’t slow it down when it absolutely had to last week.
Milton will have a huge day.
He’s bombing away on everyone, and with Navy not doing anything to get into the backfield, the UCF offense will keep on rolling.
