There’s absolutely no margin for error at this point for either team in what’s turning into a fantastic Big 12 race.

It’s not just that TCU is the lone unbeaten team in the conference – or that the Horned Frogs already beat Oklahoma State – it’s that eight teams are still in the chase for two spots in the Big 12 title game, and six teams are sitting at 2-1 or better.

Oklahoma State has to find a way to survive its current run of three road games in four dates. It took down Texas Tech, but has Texas and West Virginia up next on the road before facing Oklahoma.

Again, no margin for error.

But the Cowboys are 5-1 and a mortal lock to at least go bowling. If Texas loses this week, there’s still a shot that Tom Herman’s strong first season doesn’t even end in a post-season swag bag trip.

The Longhorns still have to go to TCU and West Virginia to go along with a showdown with Texas Tech. However, after battling hard with Oklahoma last week, there’s still plenty of hope to get hot and making to Arlington for a shot at the title.

One Reason Why Texas Will Win

Texas can’t get into a wild passing shootout in Stillwater, it can keep up the pace.

Oklahoma State has faced one team that can run, and it didn’t come through.

Tulsa and Baylor each ran for over 200 yards against the Cowboys, but they also each got hit with 59 points. TCU ran amok, cranking out 238 yards and four scores, answering OSU scoring drives with points of its own.

Texas has to follow the same playbook. While Kenny Hill didn’t do much on the ground for the Horned Frogs against the Cowboys, Texas QB Sam Ehlinger has to give it a shot.

He took a beating and battled through against OU, running for 110 of the team’s 139 yards with 278 passing yards and a touchdown. He was it.

One Reason Why Oklahoma State Will Win

This is one beaten up Texas team.

It’ll be interesting to see how Oklahoma responds this week against Kansas State after battling the Longhorns in a wild and emotional brawl. The Red River Whatever You Want To Call It This Week is always going to be a fight, but this one was a bit different.

Oklahoma State isn’t all that physical, but it’s great at coming out roaring, setting the pace, and seeing if you can keep up.

Mason Rudolph has been forgotten about after the loss to TCU – he threw for 398 yard and two scores, by the way – but he’s still destroying defenses week after week, throwing for over 300 yards win all six games with 19 touchdowns and four interceptions.

Last year he dropped an almost 400-yard passing day hammer on Texas in the win. Start fast, get the magnificent receivers involved, and see if the Longhorns have the legs to keep up.

What’s Going To Happen

The Texas defense is better than Oklahoma State’s, but the Cowboys can get into the backfield. They’re going to hit Ehlinger early and often, Rudolph will overcome a shaky stretch where the Longhorn D takes over, and the points and yards will fly.

Oklahoma State will have more of both.
