Now we get to see what kind of a coach P.J. Fleck really is.

His team couldn’t seem to figure out Maryland and its third-string quarterback last week, and now comes the real test.

Beating Buffalo, Oregon State and Middle Tennessee wasn’t any big deal, but that loss to the Terps might have exposed the Gophers for being a bit too soft on the lines and without the firepower to come back when the ground game isn’t working.

Now we get to see what kind of a coach Jeff Brohm is.

Overloved for a win over Missouri and a not-bad performance against Louisville, Purdue has had two weeks to get past a perfectly acceptable home loss to Michigan.

But with Wisconsin up next on the road, lose to the Gophers, and the season might quickly hit a slide.

One Reason Why Minnesota Will Win

The offensive line is in the midst of a terrific season.

It couldn’t blast away well enough against Maryland, but it’s not letting anyone into ht backfield – the Gophers are allowing the fewest tackles for loss per game of anyone in the country – and it’s doing a great job of helping the offense grind down the clock.

For all the good things Purdue has done so far, it doesn’t generate any pressure, it doesn’t get to the quarterback, and it doesn’t make plays behind the line.

Give Minnesota’s passing game a little time to work, and it can make things happen down the field.

One Reason Why Purdue Will Win

The run defense has been terrific.

Michigan needed to blast away with its tough O line, and it had a hard time doing it coming up with just three yards per carry. No, the Boilermakers don’t get behind the line, but they’re able to swarm around ball and they don”t get gashed.

Ohio’s solid running game only came up with 173 yards, Louisville was held to 146, and overall, the defense has been one of the biggest turnaround under Brohm.

Unlike the last few years, Purdue has been able to hold up. Stuff the Minnesota ground game, stuff Minnesota.

What’s Going To Happen

No chance that Purdue loses at home as the school and the program honors the late Joe Tiller.

With the time off, the defense will keep the Minnesota ground game under wraps, but the offense won’t catch a break on turnovers – the Gophers don’t give the ball away.

Like the Maryland game, Minnesota will have its chances in the fourth quarter, but it won’t be able to come through as the Boilermakers hang on.
