The Cardinals are just good enough to be interesting in the biggest games, and they’re just good enough to be considered a big win for Clemson and NC State, but they’re not all that good.

Lamar Jackson has been amazing, but he’s not getting a whole lot of help. He’s trying, but the defense isn’t doing enough. He’s trying, but the running game isn’t there. He’s trying, but the O line isn’t giving him a break.

But the team is where it’s supposed to be. It’s supposed to lose to Clemson, and it was supposed to lose at NC State. It’s not supposed to lose to Boston College.

The Eagles don’t have enough offense, and the defense isn’t picking up the slack, but now they’ll play desperate. Lose this, and the season is over with at Virginia, Florida State and NC State up next. Lose this, and they’ll have to win four of their final five games to go bowling – and probably save Steve Addazio’s job.

One Reason Why Louisville Will Win

The BC passing game just isn’t working.

It’s had a few quirky moments – the one touchdown pass last week against Virginia Tech came on a trip play – and it’s been a fight just to complete a pass or two.

The Eagles have yet to complete more than 47% of their passes in any ACC game for an offense that’s averaging 4.7 yards per throw. All Louisville has to do is get going early and put up a few quick scores, and that’s it. The Eagles won’t have an answer.

One Reason Why Boston College Will Win

Can the run defense contain Jackson?

There’s talent in the linebacking corps, and the ends are good enough to bother the Heisman winner to keep him from going off.

There wasn’t any luck stopping the Notre Dame ground attack, and Clemson went off for 342 yards, but the D held down Josh Jackson and Virginia Tech last week with five sacks and nine tackles for loss.

If BC and Harold Landry can match the NC State and Bradley Chubb playbook, they might be able to survive the storm. However …

What’s Going To Happen

Last year, Jackson ran for 185 yards and three touchdowns in a 52-7 win.

It won’t be that bad this season, but after all the problems, and with all of the criticism after the NC State loss, Louisville will play well. The defense will give up a few rushing yards and scores, but once Jackson gets into a lather, the offense will roll.

The Notre Dame game is the playbook. The Irish got Brandon Wimbush and Josh Adams in the open field, and Louisville is about to do the same thing for stretches.
