There’s no college football team having less fun than Kansas.
Not only are the Jayhawks not scoring, but they’re not even close to doing anything functional offensively.
They generated 21 more yards of total offense last week against TCU than you did.
But three of the next four games are at home, and if there’s some way to possibly shock Kansas State and pull off a rivalry win, that would at least ease the pain. It’s a lost year – screwing up Kansas State would be better than a bowl win.
The Wildcats are struggling way too much, too, but at least they’re scoring.
They suffered an overtime loss to Texas, and couldn’t hold on late in the loss to Oklahoma. With road games at Texas Tech and Oklahoma State ahead, and tough-looking home games against West Virginia and Iowa State to deal with, an inexplicable loss in Lawrence will – for all intents and purposes – end the season.
One Reason Why Kansas State Will Win
The Kansas offense wasn’t always so miserable.
It ran wild against West Virginia, and took off for 256 yards against Texas Tech, but all of a sudden, the offensive line hit the skids and nothing else worked.
Over the last two weeks against Iowa State and TCU, Kansas has managed a grand total of 127 yards. converting just 4-of-32 third down tries and generating a grand total of nine first downs.
Worst of all, the team can’t create any big breaks.
The D hasn’t come up with a turnover in the last two games, and is -9 overall. Kansas State has only lost the turnover battle once and is +6 overall.
One Reason Why Kansas Will Win
The Kansas State running game worked against Oklahoma last week, but overall, it’s struggling to keep things moving. The Wildcats aren’t moving the chains on offense, and they’re not getting into the backfield on defense.
They’re not doing what Kansas State normally does.
After having a nightmare of a time keeping Iowa State and TCU from doing whatever they wanted behind the line, there’s a chance the Jayhawk O line should get a bit of a break this week.
The Kansas running game did work for a while, and now that it’s back at home, it has to try grinding out drives to give its defense a break.
What’s Going To Happen
With Jesse Ertz hurt, Alex Delton has stepped it up as the Kansas State quarterback. After completing 12-of-14 passes for 144 yards and a score with a pick against Oklahoma, and running for 142 yards and three touchdowns, he showed he could move the offense.
He’ll lead the way to a few early scores, and Kansas won’t be able to get back in the game. The Jayhawk O will finally start moving the ball a bit again, but it’s not going to go off like it’ll need to.
