What’s Going To Happen

Just when it seemed like Houston was going to come into this game as the leader of the West division and with a chance to take control … pfffffft. The air went out of the balloon in a puzzling and inexplicable loss to Tulsa and its miserable defense.

Just when it seemed like Memphis was going to be in trouble in the conference title chase – getting whacked by UCF a few weeks ago – it did its part to survive against an unbeaten Navy and its dangerous option offense to get a huge, huge win.

Navy is still a factor, SMU is strong, and even Tulane has an outside shot at taking the division. The winner on Thursday night becomes the leader in the race to face USF or UCF in the American Athletic title.

Can Houston finally start getting the passing game going? Kyle Postma struggled against the Golden Hurricane, throwing two picks and not pushing the ball down the field. Even worse, the ground game couldn’t roll against one of the nation’s top run defenses.

Memphis doesn’t generate any sort of pressure, but it won’t need to.

QB Riley Ferguson will make another statement with a strong three touchdown performance – following up his great game against Navy – the mediocre Cougar secondary will have a nasty time dealing with Anthony Miller and the receiving corps, and the Tigers will take a leg up in the division chase.
