Really, how good is Boston College?
The Eagles have turned the season around with three wins in the last four games to get up to 4-4 with a real shot at bowl eligibility. The offense has kicked in with shocking wins on the road at Louisville and Virginia, and now there’s hope to make a whole lot of noise down the stretch.
However, the Eagles still need to win two of their last four games with NC State, at UConn – who’s dangerous now – and at Syracuse still to play.
Really, how mediocre is Florida State?
The Seminoles might not be BYU-disappoitning, but they’re not far off considering they came into the season with the talent to be a top three team. The defense isn’t stepping up like it’s supposed to, and the offense isn’t making the big plays it needs to – the freshman quarterback excuse doesn’t work much anymore.
And now there’s a concern about even going bowling. At 2-4 in an 11-game season, the Noles have to win four of their last five games, and they still have to go to Clemson and Florida. Lose this, and the season is effectively over.
One Reason Why Florida State Will Win
If the run defense can step up and play up to its potential, the Boston College offense should be shut down.
No, SC won’t throw against the FSU secondary like it did against Virginia, but after being embarrassed by Lamar Jackson and a Louisville running game that cranked up close to 300 yards and three scores, will the Noles come back roaring?
The line isn’t getting into the backfield like it’s supposed to, and the front hasn’t played as well as it should, but this is the game to do it. The season is on the line, and the FSU D is overdue for a shutdown performance.
One Reason Why Boston College Will Win
Maybe the BC passing game really will work again.
Anthony Brown roared against Virginia last week, completing 19-of-24 passes for 275 yards and three scores, and ran for 32 yards in the blowout win.
Two weeks ago, it was AJ Dillon running for 272 yards in a win over Louisville, and then the Eagles aired it out against Virginia – the offense is adapting.
Brown has been too erratic, and he hadn’t hit 50% of his passes in three of his previous four games, but FSU now has to worry about him – if it’s worried.
Do the Seminoles have the fight to get fired up on a Friday night game?
This is a team that’s supposed to be playing for the ACC title, and it’s had its heart ripped out by Miami and Louisville over the last few weeks. Meanwhile, BC is playing like a team that’s found its groove.
What’s Going To Happen
Boston College will be jacked up to come up with a huge home win on national TV, but this is pride time for FSU.
It’s going to be a struggle, but think Wake Forest.
The Demon Deacons outplayed FSU at home, and they had every opportunity to pull off the win, and then the talent differential made a difference. BC will give the Noles a hard time, and then FSU will make it an eighth-straight win in the series.
