Last year, Syracuse came into the Clemson game with wins over Virginia Tech and Boston College, looking like a possible upset spot for a Clemson team that was looking a little shaky after close calls against NC State and Florida State.

Clemson won 54-0 in.a total wipeout.

The Tigers might not be quite as unbeatable-looking as they were last season, but they got through a nasty September, got by Wake Forest, and now need to blow past this without breathing hard.

Who’s up next? After a few weeks off to rest up, Georgia Tech, at NC State, Florida State.

But first, the Tigers have to deal with an Orange team that’s been okay, but doesn’t have the explosion of last season. With at Miami and at Florida State up next, it doesn’t get any easier.

One Reason Why Syracuse Will Win

The offensive firepower might not be there on the scoreboard, but the 1-2 receiving combination of Steve Ishmael and Ervin Phillips continues to be among the ACC’s best.

Ishmail is a big target who can get deep, hitting the 100-yard mark in every game so far until last week – he got 97 against Pitt. Phillips caught eight passes last week after making a whopping 28 grabs against LSU and NC State.

And now this becomes the Eric Dungey game.

Knocked out early last year against the Tigers, Dungey has come back to be among the ACC’s best passers. Now he’ll have to be legendary.

One Reason Why Clemson Will Win

The Orange O line hasn’t been all that great, and the D line doesn’t get into the backfield.

The Clemson defensive front should get to Dungey early and often – the Syracuse offensive line has allowed 15 sacks so far and hasn’t done a thing for the ground game.

The defensive front was able to come up with two sacks against LSU and two against Pitt, but it’s hardly a force that’s going to pressure a gimpy Kelly Bryant. Good to go after suffering an ankle injury, he might not be taking off and being the rushing threat he was before the Wake Forest game, but he’ll get the time to work.

What’s Going To Happen

Can the Carrier Dome be the difference in a strange Friday night game? Will Bryant not being 100% matter?

The Tigers will dominate on the defensive front, but the secondary will be hit hard a times. They’ll win, but it won’t be anywhere near the total wipeout of last year.

Syracuse will hit a few haymakers to make it seem like an upset is possible, and then Clemson’s talent will rise up.
