There’s the team coming off yet another ugly loss in the midst of a lost season with no bowl game to play for.
And then there’s Ole Miss.
Fine, so Arkansas is still alive for bowl eligibility, but it after losing three straight and going 0-4 in SEC play, it has to win four of the last five games to get the trip with all the cash and prizes.
It might not be quite as hard as it seems.
With Coastal Carolina up next, and Mississippi State and Missouri at home, the four wins needed are possible – assuming a loss at LSU.
But that Hogs can’t clunk in Oxford.
The lost season for Ole Miss just to a whole lot worse, losing star QB Shea Patterson for the season. That was the one plus out of this whole mess – the young guy was going to get a whole slew of live reps.
Now the goal is to close strong and find something positive to build on for 2018.
And to screw up everyone along the way.
One Reason Why Arkansas Will Win
Ole Miss can’t stop the run even a little bit.
There were a few problems over the first few weeks of the season, and then SEC play kicked in, and then everyone got to fatten up the stats whenever they tried to pound away.
To be fair, Arkansas had to deal with Alabama and Auburn – and each ran wild, combining for 791 yards and eight scores – and it was forced to face a well-motivated Derrius Guice last week, who helped LSU run for 393 yards.
Okay, Arkansas. Under this coaching staff, you’re supposed to be able to run amok in games like this. You’re supposed to be able to blast away on soft run defenses that allow backs to get to the second level.
One Reason Why Ole Miss Will Win
The Arkansas lines have been way too mediocre.
There’s absolutely no pass rush – the Hogs are last in the SEC in tackles for loss – and the O line that’s supposed to be a massive plus under the Bret Bielema thumb can’t keep the quarterbacks upright.
Ole Miss might not have a killer pass rush, and there might not be a whole lot happening in opposing backfields, at least there’s a little bit of a push from time to time.
Arkansas QB Cole Kelley might be really big, and really tough, but he’s not pushing the ball down the field. Any pressure on him throws everything out of whack for a passing game that’s just not dangerous enough.
What’s Going To Happen
Can Jordan Ta’amu crank up the Rebel offense?
He might not be Patterson throwing the ball, but he’s a baller who can make things happen with his legs, too. Unfortunately for the Rebels, he’s not going to have the ball enough.
Arkansas doesn’t do a whole lot well, but it’s great at taking the air out of the ball at times. The Hogs will dominate the time of possession, they’ll finally start getting something out of a big O line that’ll pave the way for a 200-yard day for the first time in the last three weeks.
