10 Best Predictions Against The Spread: Week 9
What ten games appear to be the best bets and the best picks against the spread going into Week 9? Here you go. Enjoy.
Shhhhhh. We will not discuss last week.
The sun was in my eyes
My dog I don’t have ate my research.
Это были русские.
I was young and needed the work.
I do NOT go 2-8. Ever. Especially on ten key predictions that I give to you fine people. So because of last year’s debacle, I’ll go deep in the cellar for the batch of pre-Prohibition era Repeal Reserve predictions to make up for it.
Of course, these are all just for fun and giggles. So here you go with the ten best picks and predictions against the spread for Week 9.

Starting with five that didn’t quite make the cut, but are still spicy …
Week 9: 10 Best Predictions ATS
Line: Southern Miss -12.5, o/u: 52.5
ATS PICK: UAB
Southern Miss needed a miracle to get by Louisiana Tech with an offense that’s struggled a bit too much to put big numbers up on the board. The Eagles blasted UTEP – possibly the worst team in the country – but they have yet to beat any other FBS teams by more than 12.5.
UAB might have just lost to Charlotte – totally inexcusable – but each of its last five games have been decided by seven points or fewer, and the last four were decided by a grand total of seven points.
Line: Oklahoma State -7.5, o/u: 73
ATS PICK: West Virginia
This is just a straight I-sort-of-think-West-Virginia-is-going-to-win-straight-up pick.
The Mountaineers almost collapsed against Baylor, but they got by Texas Tech at home by 11, and now they’re back in Morgantown for just the second time since September 16th.
Oklahoma State has yet to blow out anyone who’s great – Pitt, South Alabama, Tulsa and Baylor don’t count. In this likely shootout, getting that extra half a point helps.
Line: Troy -28, o/u: 50.5
ATS PICK: Georgia Southern
Yeah, Georgia Southern might be the worst team in the Sun Belt, and Troy might be the best. Yeah, Georgia Southern might have fired its head coach, and Troy might be playing at home.
But Troy has yet to score more than 34 points, and it has yet to beat anyone by 28 – or been all that close to it – and that includes wins over Alabama State, New Mexico State, and Georgia State.
Georgia Southern just got blown out at UMass by 35, but take the chance that this isn’t the week the Troy offense goes off.
7. UTEP at UTSA
Line: UTSA -15.5, o/u: 47.5
ATS PICK: UTSA
Considering UTEP can’t score – it didn’t put any points on the board against USM two weeks ago, and is averaging just 12 points per game – and now it has to face a fired up UTSA team at home.
The Roadrunners haven’t covered the 15.5 since the wins over Baylor and Texas State – neither one has done anything – but the D should rise up in an easy win.
Line: Kansas State -24, o/u: 55.5
ATS PICK: Kansas State
Kansas hasn’t scored in two weeks. Kansas has been outscored by a combined score of 88-0 in those two games. Kansas hasn’t held any team to under 42 points. Kansas is about to get ripped to shreds by Kansas State.
Line: Oklahoma -20, o/u: 75
ATS PICK: Texas Tech
Have you seen this Oklahoma defense lately? As good as OU is – and it’ll win this – its last four games were all decided by eight points or fewer. That includes Baylor, Texas, and Kansas State – it doesn’t include a team with the firepower of Texas Tech.
Yeah, the Red Raider offense clunked against Iowa State, but it still wasn’t a 20-point loss. Texas Tech will be able to hang around just enough to cover.
Line: New Mexico -1.5, o/u: 45.5
ATS PICK: Wyoming
I always do picks and previews before looking at the lines. Usually I’m off by a few points here and there, but I assumed Wyoming would be at least a touchdown favorite – and it’s an underdog at home.
The Cowboy O isn’t all that great, but the defense has been fantastic. Great at stuffing the run and getting into the backfield, UW should slow down the Lobos just enough to get the win.
Line: Michigan State -2, o/u: 40.5
ATS PICK: Michigan State
Welcome to this week’s revenge-anger pick. Northwestern just isn’t that good, but it somehow managed to get past Iowa last week and Maryland on the road the week before just to spite me.
Michigan State will ease my pain. It knows how pull off tight games better than just about anyone.
Line: Arkansas State -3, o/u: 70.5
ATS PICK: Arkansas State
Arkansas State is simply a better team, and three points isn’t all that many to worry about.
New Mexico State is finally back at home after being on the road for the last three weeks, but it lost in Las Cruces to Troy several weeks ago. Arkansas State’s offense is rolling at just the right time, putting up 141 points over the last three games.
Line: Utah -3.5, o/u: 50
ATS PICK: Utah
Utah might be struggling, and it might have a hard time doing the things that made it great over the year, but Oregon is a hot mess.
Do you want to take a shot that this is the week the miserable Duck O has it all figured out?
Struggling to score on Washington State and Stanford is one thing – Oregon put up just ten points on the Cougars and seven against the Cardinal – but to only score 14 points on UCLA? Oregon is supposed to runs and it couldn’t do it against a Bruin D that’s giving up rushing yards to everyone.
Utah lost its last three games, but they were in fights against Stanford and USC, and after giving up four picks in a sloppy loss to a red hot Arizona State.
The Ducks have been blown out since losing QB Justin Herbert by a combined score of 113-31. Utah getting to -3.5 won’t be a problem.
