Okay, so Alabama might have won the national championship against Clemson if Lane Kiffin was the offensive coordinator, but Florida Atlantic didn’t do much of anything against Navy in a brutal 42-19 loss that – thanks to weather – lasted forever.

Meanwhile, Wisconsin needed a quarter to get its 2017 season going against Utah State, but once it all kicked in, the team that many think should be a factor in the College Football Playoff chase showed up with 59 unanswered points in a dominant win.

Can Kiffin get his Owls to rise up and pull off the shocker to kickstart what should be a brief and interesting coaching tenure? Or, will Wisconsin show once again just how good it really is, and really could be?

It’s Lane Kiffin. It’ll be interesting no matter what.

One Reason Why Florida Atlantic Will Win

Can the Owls get the passing game going early on?

Wisconsin needed 20 minutes to finally get what Utah State was doing with its quirky offense, and then shut it down to a dead stop.

FAU will have to throw to keep up, coming off a a decent day from Daniel Parr against Navy, who threw for 281 yards and two scores, while FSU transfer DeAndre Johnson came in and ran a little bit.

Wisconsin’s secondary is still a bit of a question mark – it wasn’t tested enough by Utah State – and now it’ll be up to Kiffin to figure out how to keep the chains moving.

One Reason Why Wisconsin Will Win

Navy used its option attack to rip up the Owls for 416 rushing yards and five scores, with the power from the fullback working as well as QB Zach Abey rumbling on the outside.

Get ready for the Badgers to look like the Badgers running the ball.

The offense was balanced against Utah State, with Alex Hornibrook getting plenty of time to operate and only getting stopped when his receivers made mistakes.

Meanwhile, the ground game was fine – it averaged over five yards per carry – but it took a while for the dam to break. Against FAU, Wisconsin will get running right away, keep running, and then rely on the defense to stuff the Owl ground game cold.

The Fighting Kiffins ran for just 40 yards on 24 carries against Navy. They aren’t going to turn into Alabama on the ground a week later.

What’s Going To Happen

It’ll be typical Wisconsin non-conference football.

It’ll struggle a wee bit early on, there will be moments when it looks like there might be a possible shocker, and then … boom. The Badgers will roll to another blowout win in dominant fashion.
