One Reason Why Eastern Kentucky Will Win
For all of the problems and all of the issues in a 3-8 season, the pass defense was one of the few positive. EKU finished 32nd among the FCS world giving up just ten touchdowns and doing a solid job overall. And now most of the key parts are back.
Seven starters return on defense, and while WKU will still be dangerous offensively and will bomb away no matter what, with a new head coach and a slew of new receivers, no one’s expecting the machine to be anywhere near as strong as it was under Jeff Brohm.
One Reason Why Western Kentucky Will Win
Even if the passing game needs a little while to step up and shine, the WKU ground game should be fantastic. Losing OT Forrest Lamp stinks, but the rest of the line is a plus, paving the way for a good group of backs who should balance things out a bit more.
Defensively, the Colonels don’t have the talent or pass rush to get to Mike White – the veteran quarterback will get all the time he wants to work.
What’s Going To Happen
Don’t expect the same sort of fireworks right away in the new era of WKU football, but new head man Mike Sanford is a big-time offensive mind like Brohm was. He’ll include more of the ground game, and he gets a strong defense that’ll dominate behind the line.
