What’s Going To Happen

It’s been a really, really rough run for UTEP.

Having to face Oklahoma and Arizona hasn’t helped the defensive confidence, but that’s Oklahoma and Arizona. The Miners were destroyed by Rice, too.

But now it faces someone its own size in a local rivalry battle. Just 40 miles apart, the two schools and the two talent bases are more than a little familiar with each other.

New Mexico State knows a little something about rivalry games, rolling by New Mexico in a thrilling 30-28 win. So far, all three NMSU games have been decided by a grand total of 11 points – the opposite of all the UTEP blowouts.

The Aggie passing offense has been fantastic, averaging 377 yards per game, but more exciting for that for a program known for not being able to play any D, the pass rush has been fantastic and the team has been more than just competitive.

NMSU isn’t Alabama defensively, but it’ll look like it at times against an anemic UTEP attack. The Miners can’t keep the quarterbacks from getting popped and have no running game – NMSU will come up with a great day from the defensive front.
