What’s Going To Happen
It’s an interesting under-the-radar showdown between two programs trying to break through.
SMU is still looking to make some noise in the American Athletic Conference, while North Texas is looking to prove the bowl season wasn’t a fluke and the team is starting to find a groove under Seth Littrell.
North Texas got the offense rolling against Lamar in a 59-14 win. Mason Fine and the passing game was efficient, but it was the rushing attack that took over with 436 yards with massive run after massive run.
The Mustangs didn’t get much out of Ben Hicks in the 58-14 win over Stephen F. Austin – he threw two scoring passes but completed 9-of-19 throws. But now it’s time to open it up a little bit.
SMU will have a few problems in the secondary, but the run defense will hold up against the suddenly solid UNT ground game. The pieces of the Mustang puzzle that didn’t do much last week – like Courtland Sutton’s two catches for 22 yards and a score – will show up.
