Saquon Barkley’s Heisman Night?: Penn State 21, Iowa 19
In a thriller of a game, Penn State and Saquon Barkley got by Iowa. Is this his Heisman game?
Penn State 21, Iowa 19
Prediction: Penn State 21, Iowa 19
Line: Penn State -12.5, o/u: 52
Saquon Barkley is now at the head of the Heisman class.
He actually shouldn’t be. Baker Mayfield came up with an even bigger performance against a better team when he led Oklahoma to the win at Ohio State, but Barkley’s brilliance was on full display in the thriller over Iowa.
Sure, Trace McSorley came through in the clutch, and Iowa RB Akrum Wadley showed off why the NFL scouts love him, too – with 75 yards receiving with a score, and 80 rushing yards and a touchdown – this was the Barkley game.
That big, that quick, that strong, that fast, and with the ability to cut and stop on a dime, he did everything for the Penn State offense.
Give James Franklin and his staff credit for not overusing the star early on this year. He was being saved for this.
28 carries for 211 yards and a score, and 12 carries for 94 yards, and with big moment after big moment, fourth down conversions, safety valve moments for McSorley, and with everything else in between, he did it all.
No, the Heisman isn’t his – Michigan and Ohio State might have something to say about it – but the NFL types are going to love him even more now, and he’s all but assured a spot in New York in early December if he stays in one piece.
But more than that, this was the magical, legendary performance that makes college football immortals.
