Purdue (0-1) vs. Ohio (1-0) Game Preview
Broadcast, TV, Game Time
Date: Friday, Sept. 8
Game Time: 8:00 pm ET
Venue: Ross-Ade Stadium, West Lafayette, IN
Purdue wasn’t perfect, it made a whole slew of mistakes, and didn’t take advantage of every opportunity vs. Louisville, but it pushed and pushed hard in a tough loss to open the season.
Ohio, though, might just be good enough to pull out a big win for the MAC, and show everyone that this really might be the team that can be this year’s Western Michigan and make a push for the Group of Five’s New Year’s Six spot.
One Reason Why Ohio Will Win
Will Purdue keep screwing up?
Louisville’s defense had a whole lot to do with it, but the Boilermakers did their part with four turnovers and six penalties. Just when it seemed like Purdue had a chance to pull off the upset – that’s when the mistakes kicked in.
Ohio wasn’t exactly air-tight against Hampton, but it showed off the potential balance and explosion in the 59-0 win. The Bobcats ran at will, were effect throwing the ball, and got the tune-up out of the way to prepare for the storm that’s coming.
The secondary is just good enough to handle what Purdue is bringing. But …
One Reason Why Purdue Will Win
This isn’t going to be the type of Ohio team that puts up huge offensive numbers in chunks, and it certainly doesn’t have Lamar Jackson to worry about.
It might not be ideal quite yet, but Purdue will keep rotating quarterbacks with David Blough and Elijah Sindular getting their shot at bombing away in the new Jeff Brohm attack.
The passing game cranked out almost 300 yards with four scores, unearthing a huge game from Jackson Anthrop – a great-looking target who should be more of a No. 1 guy.
If this gets into any sort of a shootout, Purdue is ready.
What’s Going To Happen
Purdue will get Jeff Brohm his first win.
Ohio will grind out the clock and own the time of possession, and it’ll win the turnover margin enough to keep it close, but the Boilermaker offense will be just good enough in the fourth to pull out a fun Friday night win.
