Pitt and Oklahoma State put on a fun and wild show last season in a 45-38 Cowboy win. Can the second match ever between the two be anywhere near as good?

Pitt needs to get the offense back up and rolling again after struggling to get by Youngstown State to start the season and with a 33-14 loss to Penn State. The schedule eases up a wee bit after going to Georgia Tech next week, but just getting by isn’t what the 2017 season is supposed to be about.

The Panthers are supposed to be good enough at this point under head coach Pat Narduzzi to win a game like this.

Or, this is the moment when Oklahoma State rises up and shows that it deserves to be considered right there in the mix for the Big 12 title if it can remain as impressive as it’s been over the first two weeks.

Tulsa and South Alabama might not be Oklahoma and Alabama, but still, the Cowboys did what they’re supposed to do against teams like that. On the road against a Pitt team in need of something big, Oklahoma State has to be ready for a fight.

One Reason Why Oklahoma State Will Win

Mason Rudolph has been amazing.

While Baker Mayfield might be the Big 12’s star quarterback, and Josh Rosen, Josh Allen, and Sam Darnold are getting more attention in the NFL Draft circles, Rudolph is making his case to be put in the company of the elite of the elite, hitting 73% of his passes so far for 638 yards and six touchdowns with no picks, and running for two touchdowns.

The Pitt secondary was good enough against Penn State last week, but it showed early on against Youngstown State that it’s still going to be an issue.

The Oklahoma State passing game has been brutally efficient, the running game is more than capable to hold up its end of the bargain, and the team should be prepared to rolling a wild shootout.

Pitt has yet to prove it can keep up the pace.

One Reason Why Pitt Will Win

Can the Panthers simply hold on to the ball long enough to get this game into the fourth quarter with the outcome still in doubt?

While Pitt is having problems in a whole slew of areas, it’s been great at dominating the time of possession, keeping the ball for well over 36 minutes one each of the first two games.

Oklahoma State strikes quickly, but if the Panther defense can just get off the field, Max Browne and company should be able to dink and dunk their way to long possessions, keeping Rudolph on the sideline.

What’s Going To Happen

Pitt just doesn’t have the pop.

Oklahoma State is playing too well, and there are way too many good parts all clicking at once for the Panthers to keep up.

The Cowboys are playing a little bit of defense, too, and while Pitt will put up a few points at home, the Panther defensive front won’t be able to get to Rudolph enough to slow down the machine.
