Be really, really, really careful here, and don’t blow off this game.
Miami hasn’t played in forever, cancelling on a road date at Arkansas State and moving the Florida State showdown. Now it has to face – maybe – the best team in the MAC with a veteran group that hasn’t quite gotten the machine rolling, but has the parts to pull off the upset.
Toledo hasn’t been the dominant force it’s supposed to be, or possibly will be, but it rolled through Elon and Nevada without breaking too much of a sweat, and it survived the wild shootout with Tulsa in a 54-51 firefight.
It’s a battle-tested squad that’s used to traveling. And then there’s Miami, who’s had to deal with a whole slew of things other than college football.
But now it’s focus time with a dangerous date at Duke up next before going to Florida State. No one will take it easy on the Hurricanes just because they went through a traumatic event and are still dealing with the aftermath.
They have to be ready for Toledo.
One Reason Why Toledo Will Win
The passing offense is there. it’s just not quite finely tuned.
Taking away the best running back currently rolling in the NFL has something to do with the rushing production slowing down. But even without Kareem Hunt, the Rockets are still cranking up the offense with Logan Woodside coming off a 458-yard, six touchdown day against Tulsa.
This is a fearless attack that will start bombing and keep the production going. Miami has to be ready to engage in an offensive firefight.
Beating Bethune-Cookman a few weeks ago doesn’t qualify as a tune-up anymore.
One Reason Why Miami Will Win
You think the Hurricane defensive front is ready to get this thing going?
The Toledo running game won’t go anywhere, and there will be way too many mistakes for a team that’ll have to be flawless to pull this off.
With 31 penalties on the year, the Rockets are shooting themselves in the foot way too often.
Get the offensive line rolling and pound away on the mediocre Toledo run D, with a slew of battles when Woodside starts cranking up the passing attack, and let the guys from Ohio melt.
It’ll be close to 90-degrees, rainy, and very, very humid. Good luck with that, Toledo.
What’s Going To Happen
Miami will look like it never left.
There will be a few misfires here and there for a team that’s tried to practice and keep everything focused, but needs to prove itself in live action again.
Toledo’s defense won’t be able to hold up as the game goes on, but Woodside will make this a fight.
