One Reason Why Massachusetts Will Win
Having the one game under its belt will matter.
UMass might have lost last week to Hawaii, but the passing game work and the team did just enough to pull it out – until it gave up a scoring drive in the final moments.
Andrew Ford was sharp, completing 21-of-30 passes for 275 yards and two score with a pick, and Marquis Young ran well with 83 yards and two scores.
Coastal Carolina has a decent-looking defense, but does it have the offense in place to keep up? The Chanticleers don’t have Hawaii’s attack and might need a little while before everything starts to click. By that time, UMass might be up two scores.
One Reason Why Coastal Carolina Will Win
UMass playing a game is a plus in some ways – Coastal Carolina has game film to go off of.
Will the emotion and excitement of being a new FCS team matter? The team has the talent in all phases to be fine as long as the starting 22 doesn’t stumble – the depth isn’t really there.
Even with the good game from Young, the Minutemen couldn’t run all that well and should hit a wall against a strong-looking Chanticleer defensive front.
This is a well-coached, big play D that should take over the game at times.
What’s Going To Happen
It’ll be entertaining and spirited with both teams going up and down the field for stretches. In a dead even battle with lots of good drives and momentum swings, Coastal Carolina will take over in the fourth quarter in an emotional and exciting close win in the final moments.
And it’ll once again be another demoralizing close call for the Minutemen.
