Well welcome back, UCF.

After several weeks off thanks to nature kicking in, the Knights get to jump back into the college football season with a nasty test to deal with.

Good enough to potentially be a player in the American Athletic race – which would make it a player in the Group of Five New Year’s Six bowl slot – UCF was magnificent in the 61-17 opener against FIU before having to cancel a few games before making this trip.

Meanwhile, Maryland is still a bit of a mystery.

Was the Texas win really what this team is going to be? If so, this needs to be the week the Terps start to make a little more noise.

UCF is good, this is a real test, and Maryland needs to get ready for a run of three Big Ten road games in four weeks, kicking things off against Minnesota and Ohio State.

One Reason Why UCF Will Win

It’s only a one game sample size, but if what UCF did against FIU was any indication, the passing game should be amazing.

McKenzie Milton threw for 360 yards and four scores against the Golden Panthers, and now he gets to go against a Terp secondary that gives up big passing yards in chunks.

13 different Knights got to catch passes in the opener, and now Milton will spread the ball around with ability to keep up the pace if this gets rolling early.

With three weeks to focus on one game, when it wasn’t dealing with everything else going on, the UCF coaching staff got to plan for this game, but …

One Reason Why Maryland Will Win

The Maryland coaches have had a few weeks to prepare, too.

The Towson game couldn’t have come at a better time, needing to get the true freshman quarterback some live action and a chance to figure out what he’s doing.

Kasim Hill was supposed to be the franchise-making playmaker when he signed on, but it wasn’t expected to happen right away. Against the Tigers, he hit 13-of-16 passes for 163 yards and two scores, and ran for 41 on the ground.

He stepped in and came though under pressure against Texas – he’s going to have a problem with the UCF defense? Fortunately for Hill and the offense, the running backs and playmakers are there to balance things out.

D.J. Moore rose up two weeks ago with three touchdowns with seven catches for 97 yards and two scores.

What’s Going To Happen

The hype and expectations are starting to grow around UCF – absence seems to make the hearts grow fonder. But Maryland is the real deal, and it’ll look it with a strong first quarter to set the tone, and a decent defensive performance that’ll be better than the stats look. Milton will get his passing yards, but the Terps will always have an answer.
