Kirby Smart Complimentary Of Freshman Quarterback Jake Fromm: ‘I Feel Like There’s A Monkey Off His Back’
During the weekly SEC football teleconference Wednesday morning, Georgia head coach Kirby Smart had good things to say about true freshman QB Jake Fromm.
“I think he’s got a little more confidence,” Smart said. “He didn’t play a perfect game, don’t get me wrong. There are things to clean up. But the last 2 days, he’s been a little more crisp.
“I feel like there’s a monkey off his back.”
Fromm made his first career start last Saturday at Notre Dame, guiding Georgia to a 20-19 victory. Fromm went 16-of-29 for 141 yards with a touchdown and one interception. Not great numbers based on the statistics alone, but the former Houston County star made the plays when it counted, and Georgia squeaked out a road win.
“I really don’t think the expectation changes,” Smart said. “The expectation is that he’s going to play winning football at the quarterback position … I certainly hope his confidence grows, but the expectation doesn’t change.”
