No matter what happens and who wins, it won’t be time to go too crazy quite yet.

South Carolina did an amazing job of somehow getting horribly outplayed at times by NC State, and still winning. It then went on to do next to struggle offensively against Missouri – and still won 31-13 on the road.

At the very least, the Gamecocks could be an interesting out for a while. Win, and they’re 2-0 in the SEC with a whole slew of not-unwinnable conference games coming up against Texas A&M, Arkansas, Tennessee and Vanderbilt.

Kentucky was able to slow down the Southern Miss offense and fought past Eastern Kentucky, but it doesn’t matter how the sausage was made – the Cats are 2-0.

With the annual loss to Florida coming up, beating South Carolina on the road is a must before having to deal with a more-dangeorus-than-you-think Eastern Michigan team after facing the Gators.

The winner will get the pub from a whole slew of articles about whether or not it can actually win the East.

That’s a stretch either way, but it’ll at least be a player.

One Reason Why South Carolina Will Win

Deebo Samuel.

South Carolina’s offense has been pedestrian, and the defense okay, but the team has somehow found ways to win against two of the nation’s most impressive offenses – Missouri’s and NC State’s.

How? Limiting the mistakes, timely big plays, and a while lot of Samuel.

The do-it-all playmaker started out the season with a kickoff return for a touchdown against the Wolfpack, and followed it up with a second straight 97-yard kick-six against Mizzou.

He caught five passes in each of the first two games – with two touchdowns against NC State – and ran for a 25-yard touchdown against the Tigers.

One Reason Why Kentucky Will Win

Kentucky is playing very South Carolina-like so far.

It’s owning the turnover margin, it’s doing fine in time of possession, and it’s finding a nice knack for capitalizing on every opportunity.

While the Gamecocks might have put up 66 points so far, Samuel and the special teams had something to do with that. The USC offense doesn’t do a whole lot, averaging a paltry 303 yards per game so far.

If UK can somehow get up early, win the turnover battle, and own the time of possession, it might be able to grind down the clock a bit. The Gamecocks aren’t built to come up with big comebacks.

What’s Going To Happen

South Carolina will keep finding a way.

It might not be nice, neat, and flashy – other than Samuel – but Will Muschamp’s team has found a way to get the job done over the first two weeks.

Kentucky hasn’t showed off the offense yet to crank up the production needed to overcome what’ll be a strong day from the USC D.

The Gamecocks will come up with the big stops the Wildcats won’t.
