How quickly can Kentucky pick itself up off the mat?
It had better be able to do it in a hurry.
The Wildcats suffered a brutally painful late loss to Florida – an emotional game as they tried to break a 30-year losing streak – but with Missouri up next, and this a part of the run of five home games in six dates, they can’t whiff.
Eastern Michigan, though, has become just dangerous enough to come up with the upset if Kentucky is sulking in any way.
The Eagle offense isn’t working all that well yet, but the team has a win over Rutgers and battled well against Ohio. EMU won’t just be a speed bump.
One Reason Why Kentucky Will Win
Eastern Michigan can’t score.
The passing game is okay, but there’s no running game whatsoever to balance out the attack. The Eagles get by on tough defense, a decent mid-range game from QB Brogan Roback, and keeping scores low.
Kentucky’s defense has been terrific all year, especially against the run allowing just 89 yards a game. EMU has to win this on turnover margin and getting the passing attack rolling, but UK has dominated the turnover margin so far.
The Wildcats won’t make the mistakes EMU needs.
One Reason Why Eastern Michigan Will Win
The Eagle defense really is good.
Granted, you and your friends would look strong going against the Rutgers offense, and holding firm against Ohio isn’t all that big a deal, but the defensive front is holding its own and the secondary has been terrific.
The Eagles should be just strong enough and plucky enough to hang around if the Kentucky offense doesn’t explode. The big Wildcat runs won’t be there against a solid EMU defensive front.
Kentucky fans are going to be worried for a while that Eastern Michigan has shown up to play, but …
What’s Going To Happen
Stephen Johnson will be the difference.
The multi-talented UK QB will keep the chains moving with an efficient day – patience will be the key against the EMU defense – and the Wildcat D will take care of the rest.
Kentucky will convert third down play after third down play to grind out a win that won’t be locked up until the fourth.
