Indiana gets back into the swing of things after being cancelled on by FIU last week, but it’s Georgia Southern who really needs to get back on the field.
Easily one of the biggest duds among the Group of Five teams so far, Georgia Southern and its supposedly great option offense, but it’s fallen flat doing nothing against Auburn to start things out (okay) and New Hampshire (very, very not okay).
The Hoosiers looked great onto road against Virginia, and for about 40 minutes against Ohio State, but with Penn State up next on the road, all tuning up ends this week.
One Reason Why Indiana Will Win
It’s had a little time off to retool, but the Georgia Southern offensive line really, really isn’t working.
The Eagles are supposed to scare everyone with their option attack, but Auburn and New Hampshire were able to get behind the line all game long to keep it from ever getting going. In just two games with a primary rushing attack, Georgia Southern has allowed 20 tackles for loss and 11 sacks.
There might have been issues against Ohio State, but the Hoosier defensive front swarmed all over the Virginia running game. With time to get ready, it should be able to handle what the Eagles do.
One Reason Why Georgia Southern Will Win
It’s not like the Indiana offense is working.
QB Richard Lagow was a disaster against Virginia, and even with runner Peyton Ramsey coming in and rocking, the ground game didn’t get going, either.
The Georgia Southern defense hasn’t been great so far against the run, but it’s been able to get behind the line and be disruptive. It’ll have to take some chances, but against an IU offense that has yet to find a groove, those should pay off.
But the hope has to be for the Eagle O to finally start to fly. If it finally finds the timing and the precision down, it’s going to be an X factor.
What’s Going To Happen
The quarterbacking combination of Ramsey and Lagow will work just fine for IU. Coming off a miserable game against Virginia, Lagow will be sharp at times – even though he’ll give up a pick – to go along with a running game that’ll finally start to work.
Now that the Hoosiers don’t have to face a Buckeye or Cavalier run defense, it’s amazing how things will suddenly start to click.
