It’s the first game of the rest of Florida State’s life.
After getting beaten up by Alabama, dropping several spots in the polls, and now without its star QB Deondre Francois, the Seminoles have to pick up the pieces.
Miami is up next, and while the Hurricanes will likely have a whole lot more to deal with than a football game, football-wise, they’ll be rested.
FSU needed to get done with ULM quickly, and move on.
ULM played well in a tough loss to Memphis. The offense came back late with 15 fourth quarter points, but they weren’t enough to overcome a rough day from the run defense.
One Reason Why ULM Will Win
The quarterbacks did okay against Memphis, and the secondary was great.
Garrett Smith ended up throwing for 178 yards and a score, and led the team with 48 rushing yards, but it was the pass defense that kept ULM in the game. Memphis QB Riley Ferguson has the upside to be a fringe NFL prospect, but he only completed 10-of-25 passes for 97 yards and did nothing down the field.
FSU is breaking in a brand new quarterback, and while the other pieces might be in place, is James Blackman ready for primetime?
One Reason Why Florida State Will Win
ULM won’t go anywhere offensively.
Lost in the Francois injury, the special teams breakdowns, and the loss to Alabama was how the FSU defense all but stuffed Alabama’s offense. The secondary gave up one big pass play for a score, two good runs, and that was it.
In all, Alabama was able to gain just 269 total yards of offense. If the Seminole defense decides to play with any sort of intensity, be impressed if the ULM O – as improved as it is – comes close to the 200-yard mark.
What’s Going To Happen
Blackman will be fantastic.
He’ll turn it loose after a few sharp practices this week, while this will also be the week the ground game gets going.
Memphis ran wild on the ULM defensive front, and now Cam Akers – who was held to just 30 yards last week – will lead a breakout day from the FSU backs.
This will be over in a hurry, but Blackman will get his live reps in.
