Okay, Lamar Jackson. You want a second straight Heisman, here’s your chance.

Do what you did last year against Clemson and pull off the win this time around, and move over Baker Mayfield and Josh Rosen, it’s No. 8’s season again.

Jackson has been every bit as amazing in the first two games as he was last year, and now he’ll have to be even better to beat a Clemson team that seemed to crank up the defense to a whole other level.

Auburn has an elite offense and a team that just might be good enough to beat Alabama on the right day and take down the SEC title, and Clemson dropped a hammer last week in the most impressive defensive performance so far this year.

This is the first of four brutal road trips for Clemson – with Virginia Tech, NC State and South Carolina to face, along with a relative layup vs. Syracuse – so beating Louisville won’t ensure anything. But it would be a great step.

With Kent State and Murray State up next, Louisville is 5-0 if it can beat the defending national champs.

One Reason Why Clemson Will Win

How do you stop one of the best offenses in college football? You stop it before it can get started.

11 sacks. That’s how many Clemson came up with against Auburn in last week’s amazing 14-6 win. The Louisville offensive line has been okay so far, but it had better be ready for the storm that’s coming.

Purdue and North Carolina don’t appear to have much of a pass rush, and having a mobile playmaker like Jackson helps, but Clemson’s D plays with its hair on fire, and now its job it so swarm all over the main man.

But part of the deal will be stopping all the other parts, too. Louisville can still lose even if Jackson goes off – the Cardinal pass defense will be under siege if Clemson QB Kelly Bryant gets time – but there’s a chance Clemson goes LSU 2016 Citrus Bowl and owns this thing defensively from the start.

One Reason Why Louisville Will Win

Lamar Jackson.

Louisville has put together a nice pass rush in the first two games, the run defense is second in the nation – at least, technically, because Purdue and UNC threw and threw and threw – but this all comes down to the superstar.

It’s not a stretch to suggest that Louisville is 0-2 without him.

Jackson has been brilliant, completing 65% of his throws for 771 yards and five scores, while running for 239 yards and three scores in a highlight reel first few weeks. Last year, he all but sealed the Heisman in the loss to Clemson – throwing or 295 yards and a score with 162 rushing yards and two touchdowns – and he might be able to do it all over again.

What’s Going To Happen

Lamar, meet Christian Wilkins, and Dorian O’Daniel, and Kendall Joseph, and Austin Bryant – who came up with four sacks last week against Auburn.

Jackson will have a few WOW moments, but there won’t be enough of them as the Clemson defensive front puts on another clinic.

Bryant will have another solid, effective day for a Tiger offense that just needs to be good enough so the defense can do the rest. In Papa John’s, Bryant and the attack will blow up.
