Bret Bielema Needs To Win A Big Game: Texas A&M 50, Arkansas 43 OT
Arkansas needs to start coming up on the right side of more big wins. Head coach Bret Bielema needs to give Hog fans hope – soon.
Texas A&M 50, Arkansas 43 OT
Prediction: Arkansas 27, Texas A&M 24
Line: Texas A&M -2.5, o/u: 55
It’s not like Arkansas is new to the losing to Texas A&M thing.
Aggie head coach Kevin Sumlin has owned the Hogs since taking on the program, but this was supposed to be the time when Bret Bielema turned the season and the program around.
Texas A&M struggled over its first few games, was starting a freshman quarterback, and had no semblance of consistency on either side of the ball.
But the Hogs didn’t throw the ball particularly well. The special teams had too many breakdowns – including a big one late – and senior quarterback Austin Allen was outplayed by the A&M fresh, Kellen Mond.
And now Arkansas is 1-2 with losses to TCU and Texas A&M, and now Bielema has to deal with South Carolina and Alabama on the road and Auburn at home in his next three SEC games.
Watch out, too, for a letdown against a dangerous New Mexico State next week, too.
It’s not that anyone around the Hog program really wants the head man to be fired. There’s a lot of anger, and a lot of grouchiness, but Bielema is a good, fun, interesting figurehead who could shine if his program ever turns the corner and becomes a player.
But that’s not happening.
The offensive line almost got Allen killed at times, there wasn’t any power ground game when massive bulldozer QB Cole Kelley wasn’t in, and now it’s almost certainly going to be yet another year without being a player in the SEC race.
Bielema really is a good head coach. Now he needs to get the wins to show it.
