I’m here to try to help.

I can’t make the future happen, I can only see it – or pretend to. Last week, I kicked off the 10 Best Predictions Against The Spread piece by going 7-3.

Will I go 70% every week? Absolutely not … we’re going to do better. 70% is loser talk. That’s how we roll.

Of course, these are all just for fun and giggles. So here you go with the ten best picks and predictions against the spread for Week 5.

Please click on each game for the game preview and fearless prediction.

Starting with five that didn’t quite make the cut, but are still spicy …

ULM -7.5 over Coastal Carolina
Vanderbilt +10 over Florida
Georgia -7.5 over Tennessee
Cal -13.5 over Oregon
Mississippi State +10 over Auburn

Week 5: 10 Best Predictions ATS

10. North Texas at Southern Miss

LINE: Southern Miss -8, o/u: 55
ATS PICK: Southern Miss

The Southern Miss defense has been impressive so far. At home against a good North Texas with a nice offense, the Golden Eagles should be able to get the O going, too. UNT’s big offensive performances came against Lamar, SMU and UAB. USM’s D will rise up.

9. Maryland at Minnesota

LINE: Minnesota -13, o/u: 44
ATS PICK: Minnesota

Maryland doesn’t have any quarterbacks left. Down to their third stringer, the Terps have to hope for the defense to rise up and stop a Minnesota offense that’s quietly been fantastic.

UCF just beat Maryland 38-10 in College Park, and now Minnesota has had two weeks off to rest up after winning its last two games against Oregon State and Middle Tennessee by a combined score of 82-17.

8. Colorado at UCLA

LINE: UCLA -7, o/u: 68.5
ATS PICK: Colorado

Have you seen the UCLA defense from the start of the season? 44 points given up to Texas A&M. 23 to Hawaii, 48 to Memphis, 58 to Stanford. Everyone will be scared off by Colorado getting stopped cold by Washington, but that’s a very, very, good – as in CFP repeat trip good – team. The Buffs should win this outright.

7. Clemson at Virginia Tech

LINE: Clemson -7, o/u: 51.5
ATS PICK: Clemson

Clemson has been the investment community’s best bud – this thing is a covering machine. It’ll be tempting to love Virginia Tech at home – it did only lose to the Tigers by seven in the 2016 ACC Championship – but national title-caliber teams have a way of rising up and rocking when their manhoods are challenged. See Vanderbilt, Georgia and Michigan last week.

6. North Carolina at Georgia Tech

LINE: Georgia Tech -9.5, o/u: 60
ATS PICK: Georgia Tech

Do the Tar Heels have anyone left? Badly, badly injured, North Carolina is losing players left and right, including leading receiver and top punt returner Austin Proehl for the year.

Even at full strength, the Tar Heel defense would have problems with a Georgia Tech team that won its last two games by a combined score of 72-17 and whose offense ripped through Tennessee.

5. Baylor at Kansas State

LINE: Kansas State -16.5, o/u: 59.5
ATS PICK: Kansas State

Don’t get caught up in Baylor pushing Oklahoma. The Bears don’t have top WR Chris Platt to stretch the field, Kansas State has had two weeks off to sit and stew on the Vandy loss, and the offense is about to hang 45 on the board without breathing too hard.

4. Air Force at New Mexico

LINE: Air Force -2.5, o/u: 50
ATS PICK: Air Force

The line is very, very low because the Falcons are on the road coming off losses to Michigan and San Diego State. Yeah, but the Wolverines and Aztecs will probably end up playing in New Year’s Six bowls, and Air Force pushed them both very, very hard. The spread should be around 10.

3. Florida State at Wake Forest

LINE: Florida State -7.5, o/u: 47
ATS PICK: Florida State

Before you try to find ways to rationalize why and how an unbeaten Wake Forest team could and should beat a wounded FSU team that couldn’t seem to find any sort of a groove in its loss to NC State, consider this: Presbyterian, Boston College, Utah State, and a 20-19 nail-biter to Appalachian State. That’s what Wake Forest has done. And you’re worried if the Seminole defense can rise up with the season on the line?

2. South Alabama at Louisiana Tech

LINE: Louisiana Tech -12.5, o/u: 55.5
ATS PICK: Louisiana Tech

This isn’t the South Alabama team that beat Mississippi State and San Diego State last year. This is a South Alabama team with no offense that got its doors blown off by Ole Miss and Oklahoma State, and just lost at home to Idaho.

The Louisiana Tech offense hasn’t gotten rolling yet, but the defense is about to stomp on the Jaguars. Last week, the Bulldogs push South Carolina in a 17-16 loss, and they beat WKU on the road the week before.

1. Houston at Temple

LINE: Houston -13.5, o/u: 46
ATS PICK: Houston

Houston hasn’t exactly kicked  the offense into high gear yet, but the defense was able to stop the Arizona offense cold in a 19-16 win, and kept the explosive Texas Tech O from blowing up in a tough 27-24 loss last week. What did the D do against a miserable Rice team? 38-3.

Temple has shown absolutely nothing so far offensively, struggling to score 16 points against both Notre Dame and Villanova, and getting shot down to a dead stop by USF. It might require a little bit of sweating to get there, but if Houston has its head on straight, a two TD win won’t be a problem.
