Is it remotely possible that Colorado State is dangerous enough to come up with something dangerous?
Forget for a moment that Colorado shut down the Rams a few weeks ago. CSU has just enough offensive firepower to a least make the Crimson Tide show up and try.
And that’s gong to be the ongoing problem.
Alabama has to go to Vanderbilt next week to start SEC play, but there aren’t a slew of scary showdowns to deal with if this really is the No. 1 team in the country that it appears to be.
Focus wasn’t a problem in a 41-10 blowout over Fresno State last week, but now it’s about keeping The Process going. Now it’s about continuing to develop the passing game, while sharpening up the ground attack even more.
Colorado State is getting its shot at the biggest of big boys. With this offense, it’s not going to hold anything back.
One Reason Why Alabama Will Win
Jalen Hurts is on.
For all the concern about his passing ability in the College Football Playoff, and for all of the issues getting going against Florida State, he showed against Fresno State just how good he could be.
The sophomore hit 14-of-18 passes for 128 yards and a score, and took off ten times for 154 yards and two touchdowns in the easy romp.
Superstar recruit Najee Harris add 70 rushing yards, giving Bo Scarbrough and Damien Harris a bit of a break – everyone should still be fresh.
One Reason Why Colorado State Will Win
Nick Stevens to Michael Gallup.
Colorado State has to turn it loose, and that means the pitch-catch combo of Stevens to Gallup has to be on from the start. So far, the two have hooked up 26 times for 304 yards and a score, with Gallup catching 11 passes against Oregon State and 11 against Abilene Christian.
Take a guess who’ll be the focus of the Alabama defensive scheme this week?
The key will be giving Stevens enough time to let Gallup go to work and get free. The Tide defensive front has been its normal killer self, but Colorado State’s pass protection has been terrific so far.
What’s Going To Happen
How many turnovers have Alabama given up so far? None.
The Crimson Tide aren’t going to make the big mistakes needed for the Rams to come close to pulling off the upset. But Stevens and the passing game will hit on just enough big passes to make Nick Saban grouchy – even if his teams wins in a blowout.
