Utah is tweaking up its offense a bit, it’s taking a chance on a new starting quarterback, and it has a little reworking to do to get ready for the trip to BYU next week.
North Dakota isn’t exactly going to be a speed bump, though.
The Fighting Hawks are coming off a big season with a trip to the FCS Playoffs, and now they’re even stronger, starting out the season ranked 10th in the country.
With nine starters back on offense and six returning to a strong D, North Dakota isn’t just coming to Salt Lake City for a paycheck.
One Reason Why North Dakota Will Win
The offense is going to be devastating.
Granted, there’s a difference between dealing with the FCS world and having to battle through a defense as good as Utah’s, but the Fighting Hawks are loaded at running back, has a veteran quarterback in Keaton Studstrud working behind a line with four returning starters.
Utah’s D will be fine, but will the secondary be ready with the new parts? Will the pass rush ramp up right away? It had better.
One Reason Why Utah Will Win
Get ready for the Tyler Huntley show.
It’s Utah, so there’s always going to be a grinding power aspect to the offense, but now the new-look offense will take more shots down the field. Huntley was able to win the starting quarterback job – beating out veteran Troy Williams – and now he’s about to be unleashed.
He can run, he can make plays on the move, and he can push the ball deep. The receivers are going to be solid, the line – as always, will be fine – and now Huntley will show why he won the gig.
What’s Going To Happen
North Dakota won’t be any sort of a pushover, but watch out for the new parts of the Utah puzzle to fit right away without any sort of a problem.
Huntley will be great, the pass rush will show up, and the Utes will push through a rough start – and a terrific effort from a great North Dakota offense that’ll have its moments – to get by.
It might not be a blowout, but this isn’t a normal FCS team the Utes are facing. That’s a good thing – Utah will be tested.
