TCU, you get a week to get it all together with a shift in offensive coordinator duties – sort of – and needing QB Kenny Hill to look fantastic right out of the box.

With Arkansas coming up next, and a date at Oklahoma State to kick off the Big 12 season a few weeks later, the Horned Frog team that has to get its groove back after a disappointing 2016 needs to start out with a bang.

That’s what you’re paying Jackson State for.

The Tigers were lousy last season going 3-8, starting out with a 63-13 loss to a bad UNLV team, and things didn’t get a whole lot better.

The defense should be okay in the SWAC, but the offense has miles to go to be decent. It’s target practice time for TCU. Enjoy the light scrimmage.

One Reason Why Jackson State Will Win

The Tigers have a few nice defensive players for the Horned Frogs to worry about. Shawn Bishop is a tackling machine who can get all over the field and make big things happen behind the line, while DE Keontre Anderson was named the preseason SWAC Defensive Player of the Year.

An outstanding pass rusher, Anderson is quick off the ball and strong enough against the run to do a little bit of everything right. At the very least, TCU has to make sure its blocking scheme – pass protection was a problem last season – starts with dealing with Anderson, and then going from there.

One Reason Why TCU Will Win

Watch out for the TCU attitude from the start.

Defensive coordinator Chad Glasgow needs his D to be stronger against the run. It’s going to come out roaring.

Offensive coordinators Sonny Cumbie and Curtis Luper need to get the O back to the days when it was blowing up big – like it was in 2014.

QB Kenny Hill has to prove that he’s ready to finally be the superstar everyone wanted him to be from the start at Texas A&M. Anything less than a great performance will be alarming.

Jackson State is about to be beaten on. Huge.

What’s Going To Happen

This will be over after a few drives. TCU will ramp up the offense and score at will early on, Hill will be razor-sharp, and the defense will be suffocating. After last season, this is a team with something to prove, and it’ll set the tone in in the opener.
