One Reason Why Stony Brook Will Win

Can you stop the run? It’s a must to have any hope of staying around with the South Florida running game.

Stony Brook finished third in the nation in total defense last year and was ninth against the run.

The offense might not have been all that great, but the defense did its part. Now the Seawolves return decent size up front, good veteran tacklers at linebacker, and the experience and ability to keep Quinton Flowers contained for long stretches and the hold up up the gut.

Everything eventually got going against San Jose State, but it took a while for the Bull offense to warm up. The passing game hit the big plays, but Flowers was off, only completing 11-of-23 passes.

The Seawolves need their defense to play the part, while hoping for the offense to do just enough to grind out drives. However …

One Reason Why South Florida Will Win

As scary as the San Jose State game was early on, it’s not like the Spartan offense did anything.

The Bull defense picked off three passes and allowed just 109 rushing yards – everything was shut down cold after the first quarter.

Stony Brook has almost everyone back on offense, but that offense finished 117th in the nation last year and had a really, really hard time scoring.

USF might put this away after two early scoring drives – the Seawolves won’t be able to keep up.

What’s Going To Happen

It wasn’t much fun to start for USF in San Jose, but that changed in a hurry in the second quarter. With the AAC opener at UConn up next, the Bulls will put this away in a hurry.

The ground game will put up 350 rushing yards in three quarters before pulling back, The Stony Brook defense will be great, but this isn’t an FCS ground game.
