One Reason Why Youngstown StateWill Win

The nation’s No. 8 FCS team to start the season – and after losing the national title to end 2016 – Youngstown State is used to playing in big games in big moments.

And head coach Bo Pelini knows how to get a team ready for a game like this.

There’s still a massive question mark about the Pitt secondary and if it can stop anyone from throwing a deep pass – or a short one, or anything in between. There’s talent, there’s experience, and there are tweaks, but one of the nation’s worst pass defense still needs to prove it.

Hunter Wells is a big bomber with a slew of dangerous deep threats to work with. Full of upperclassmen, this is an older team that has the talent to make this a full 60-minute fight.

One Reason Why Pitt Will Win

Bombs away.

Youngstown State might have a decent pass defense, but it’s about to get hit by a Panther passing game that should shine from the start.

USC transfer Max Browne took over the job this offseason, and with Jester Weah and Quadree Henderson to throw to, there won’t be any problems pushing a defense that’ll bring the heat from the start.

And yes, there is hope for the nation’s second-worst pass defense. This is a deep group of defensive backs with a few potential all-stars. It’s going to be better.

What’s Going To Happen

There’s reason to tune in for more than just hearing Robert Lee – the announcer moved from the Virginia game – call it.

Youngstown State is more than good enough to pull off the win, and it’s going to push Pitt hard throughout with a defense that’ll be among the best in the FCS.

But the Panthers will survive with a good, balanced day from an offense and a great performance from Browne. It’s the type of test that might not look good on a national scale – after all, it’s a game against an FCS team – but it’ll get the season started with a jolt.
