One Reason Why Oregon State Will Win

Portland State couldn’t get the ground game going in any way against BYU. While Oregon State doesn’t have the linebackers the Cougars do, if the Vikings aren’t throwing on the Beaver secondary, forget about it.

PSU managed to come up with just 86 yards on the ground last week and couldn’t manage any big runs of any sort. The offense couldn’t open it up at all, it couldn’t move the chains, and it could only manage a few decent drives and one score.

Lost in the loss to Colorado State was how Oregon State moved the ball without too much of a problem – the offense couldn’t stop giving the ball away. As long as the Beavers don’t turn the ball over five times again, they should be fine.

One Reason Why Portland State Will Win

BYU is better offensively than it showed against the Vikings, but the Portland State defense had a little bit to do with that, too.

The Cougars only went on two long drives and were stalled time and again. The PSU front seven held up well, giving up just two good runs and stuffing everything else, and it should be just strong enough to force the Beavers to try bombing away.

OSU QB Jake Luton was fine at times against Colorado State, but he threw three picks and the team turned it over five times. Win the turnover battle, and look out.

What’s Going To Happen

After being “embarrassed,” as Oregon State head coach Gary Andersen put it, the Beavers will bounce back with a terrific performance. The defense will be night-and-day better as Portland State struggles offensively – again.

The Beavers will be more careful with the ball, will run a bit more, and will get its first win, erasing the performance in Fort Collins.
