One Reason Why Lamar Will Win

It’s a new era at Lamar with Mike Schultz taking over after a disastrous 3-8 season. With the spread attack, the Cardinals will try to speed things up a little bit offensively, while look to improve a defense that couldn’t stop anyone’s running game to get a bit tougher.

Fortunately, they’re going against a North Texas team that couldn’t seem to move the ball a lick at times, finishing 117th in the nation in total offense. The skill players might be there, but the Mean Green O line needs this game to get the right starting five in place – it’ll be a work in progress.

One Reason Why North Texas Will Win

Lamar isn’t going to do much of anything against a North Texas secondary that should be fantastic. The front three will be strong, but the defensive backs will be the stars against the Cardinal offense that has to find something that works – it’s not going to happen.

The Mean Green offense should be better. As long as the run blocking is okay – and it should be against a Cardinal D that allowed five yards per carry – UNT will have control throughout.

What’s Going To Happen

It’s not going to be a pretty brand of football.

North Texas will grind out an easy win against a Lamar team that doesn’t have enough playmakers. The Cardinals will struggle on third downs, UNT will own the field position, and this will be the warm-up game win needed to get the lines in place.
