Epps might not be the best safety on his own team, but he’s comfortably among the best in the Mountain West.
When you line up next to someone who’s arguably the best safety in the Mountain West (and, perhaps, the Group of 5), it’s easy to be overlooked. Not so with Marcus Epps, however, as he is next on our list of the Mountain West’s 50 best football players.
In his second year as Wyoming’s strong safety, Epps developed into one of the conference’s best overall defenders last fall. He finished second on the team with 111 tackles, racked up six tackles for loss, forced two fumbles, defended a team-best six passes and grabbed three interceptions for the Mountain champions.
Now a junior, Epps sits atop the Wyoming depth chart at free safety. With another productive year at a new position, he may just be able to challenge his more decorated teammate, Andrew Wingard, as the best safety in the Mountain West.
